Dearly one-day-to-be departed, we have gathered together works of art for this exhibition investigating funerals and the subject of mortality. From personal shrines to memento mori, from critique of the funerary industry to communicating with the dead, the works on display reflect differing perspectives on the funereal, staging our mortality through the lens of those still living.

Can't Find My Way Home
Brian James Spies The Hex Factory

Between personal narrative and social commentary, Brian Spies’ work negotiates a multiplicity of strata mapping the fraught terrain of economic power, media representation, and cultural identity. Informed, in part, by the institutional aesthetics of conceptual art and minimalism, he sensitively and sensibly explores, through a series of visual and written forms, the recent history of his hometown, Williamsport, PA.

Containment Policy @ pterodactyl (philly)
!RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 10 @ 8 PM!

CONTAINMENT POLICY
curated by Dr. Kevin Richards, Jon F. Allen, and Rodney Thoms

A multi-media event examining the general containment policy that confines, refines, and defines how humans conduct and are conducted through their lives in the early twenty-first century via institutions that bind. From carefully contrived cubicles in the work place and the processed packaged food we consume to the surveillance cameras that record our whereabouts and the psychiatric pills that standardize our minds and wills, this exhibition will explore and explode the categorical imperatives that rue and rule our daily existence.
